• 3 Ways to Create a Healthy Work Environment

An Office SpacePeople spend a lot of time in the workplace, and many even consider it as their second home. Therefore, it is important to keep health and safety standards in mind when designing a workplace, according to Sheffield Safety and Loss Control and other safety consulting firms.

Here are three ways you can create a healthy and safe environment for everyone at work.

      Establish cleaning habits.

Make sure that people at work understand why they are personally responsible for the cleanliness of their own work area. Set the following basic requirements: "clean as you go" in the pantry or shared spaces, dispose of personal trash, and keep the workstation clutter-free.

      Clean hands, clean environment

Creating a healthy environment, believe it or not, starts with proper hand washing. Make basic sanitation and hygiene products available in key areas like the pantry, lavatories, and entryways. Have dishwashing and hand soap in the pantry so people can clean their coffee mugs and wash their hands after touching food. Make hand soap, tissue, and hand dryer available in the lavatory, and install hand sanitizer dispensers in entryways.

This is key in eliminating germs and bacteria that can spread to the hands when using it to cover the mouth while coughing or the nose when sneezing. Have instructional materials on proper hand washing placed by the kitchen sink, especially the lavatory sink. This is a simple practice that goes a long way.

Use industrial grade cleaning materials and schedule a regular cleaning.

The workplace can get contaminated with viruses, bacteria, and other pollutants that might have harmful effects on the health of your employees. Keep the cooling and heating systems, air purifiers, and humidifiers clean to get rid of molds or dust build-up that can trigger an allergic reaction to those who are sensitive to dust. Clean the carpets, upholstery, and surfaces with industrial grade cleaning agents. It is also important to keep kitchen equipment clean, such as the microwave oven, coffee maker, and water dispenser to prevent any food and drink contamination.

Always keep in mind that a healthy and safe workplace is a good way to keep employees protected, happy, and productive.
